With innovation at its core, Intelsius continues to supply and develop product solutions to meet current market demands.
Richard Merchant, the Product Design and Engineering Manager for Intelsius in the UK, has a history of design experience, which helps understand industry needs. We catch up with Richard about his time with the company and his daily duties.
- What is your role at Intelsius?
Product Design and Engineering Manager
- What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am keeping the Technical team busy and on track! My day-to-day job is excellent and varied, overseeing product developments, packaging testing, and customer technical support.
- What skills/experience do you bring to Intelsius from your previous roles?
I have a degree in product and furniture design. Before joining Intelsius, I was a freelance designer working on POS, packaging, and websites, so I have a broad design skillset.
- How do the skills above and experience assist in your role at Intelsius?
I’ve been with the business for four and a half years as a product design engineer, so I’d like to think that I know most of the ins and outs of the company as a whole and what our customers need from our products and services.
- What is the favorite part of your role?
I like the variety the role offers, but I’m happiest when I’m hands-on making something or drawing up CAD files.
6. What are your objectives for the rest of the year?
I’ve got a list as long as my arm. Still, the significant parts are supporting the business in their transition to ISO 9001:2015 and continuing the development and delivery of our product and service offering.
QuickFire Facts:
Favorite Colour: Blue. Pantone 3005 is a recent favorite we used on a custom branded box for a customer.
Interests: Spotify playlists – I’m currently compiling one of the original songs used as samples by other artists. E.g., Harlem Shuffle by Bob & Earl is the intro to Jump Around by House of Pain. My wife has christened it the “Disappointing Playlist.”
