Following a strategic sustainability review led by Intelsius CEO David P. Walsh, Intelsius has announced a series of ambitious emissions reduction targets designed to accelerate the company’s journey towards net zero while strengthening its environmental credentials across the global life sciences supply chain.

The newly established targets will provide a clear framework for monitoring, measuring, and reducing emissions across the business. Initial implementation will begin at the company’s York headquarters before being progressively rolled out across other sites. Performance against these targets will be regularly tracked, benchmarked, and publicly reported to reinforce transparency and accountability.

“We have a responsibility to take meaningful action today that delivers measurable environmental benefits tomorrow,” said David P. Walsh. “These targets demonstrate our commitment to building a more sustainable business, reducing our environmental impact, and ensuring that sustainability remains embedded in the way we operate and innovate. While the journey ahead will require investment and collaboration, we are committed to making steady and lasting progress.”

Transitioning to 100% Renewable Energy

The first major target is to achieve 100% green and renewable energy usage across the business by 2035. As part of this commitment, Intelsius will work towards eliminating natural gas consumption from its operations and increasing the adoption of lower-carbon technologies, including heat pumps and other sustainable heating solutions.

Recognising that this transition may require significant investment, the company will actively explore grants, incentives, and other funding opportunities to support implementation.

Reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 Emissions

Intelsius has also committed to reducing combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 25% by 2030.

The company has already taken important steps towards this objective through the installation of solar panels and the procurement of REGO-backed renewable electricity. Additional opportunities to expand on-site solar generation will be assessed to further reduce operational emissions and improve energy efficiency.

Alongside these initiatives, the business will evaluate the feasibility of transitioning towards a fully electric vehicle fleet and introduce a three-year priority programme aimed at replacing existing refrigerants with more environmentally friendly alternatives that have lower global warming potential.

Addressing Scope 3 Emissions

Recognising the importance of emissions generated throughout its wider value chain, Intelsius has also established a target to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 10% by 2035.

A key focus area will be collaboration with logistics providers to better understand their reliance on fossil fuels and identify opportunities to reduce transportation-related emissions. The company will also assess the proportion of electric vehicles used within distribution networks supporting its operations.

Driving Sustainable Procurement and Innovation

Beyond emissions reduction, Intelsius will continue to prioritise recycling, resource efficiency, and sustainable innovation across its operations.

The company plans to progressively integrate more sustainable procurement practices by 2035, ensuring that environmental and social considerations play an increasingly important role in purchasing decisions and supplier relationships.

EcoVadis Assessment Highlights Areas for Continued Improvement

In addition to setting new environmental targets, Intelsius recently completed its latest EcoVadis sustainability assessment and successfully retained its ‘Committed’ rating.DGP INTELSIUS LTD GROUP EV Recognition

The assessment identified improvements within the Environmental category compared with the previous year, reflecting the progress already being made across the business. However, the results also highlighted opportunities for further development in Labour & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.

The findings reinforce the growing importance of responsible procurement practices and the need to strengthen governance, labour standards, and ethical frameworks across the organisation.

To address these opportunities, Intelsius will implement the corrective action plan recommended by EcoVadis, supporting continual improvement and helping to drive stronger sustainability performance in the years ahead.

As Intelsius continues its sustainability journey, these new commitments represent a significant step forward in delivering measurable environmental progress while supporting customers, partners, and stakeholders who increasingly expect responsible and transparent business practices.
